On-site Counseling
Under the banner of International Services for
the Physically Challenged, Robert Langford often works with private
or government agencies and organizations, domestic and foreign,
to evaluate programs and services. In this capacity, he often acts
as a catalyst to coordinate the efforts of various agencies to accomplish
an objective.
These counseling activities can take many forms
and result in wonderfully productive outcomes.

Due to postal expense and the obstructive
practices of some authorities in foreign countries, we are unable
to ship computers directly to patrons outside the United States.
However, several Computer Centers for the Blind have been organized
through the combined efforts of public
and private organizations and caring individuals who personally
take computers abroad as carry-on baggage for personal delivery
to recipients. As a result, Computer Centers for the Blind have
been established in Vine del Mar, Chile, Trujillo, Peru, and Lima,
Peru. Soon, we expect to have additional Centers in Cuba and Nicaragua.
The School for the Blind in Vina del Mar,
Chile, is an example. The School is now equipped with computers
for visually impaired persons. It required the coordinated efforts
of the local Rotary Club, the International Friendship Force,
a blind attorney, a sighted attorney, volunteer technicians, and
the Texas Center for the Physically Impaired to provide the much-needed
equipment. Read

Robert Langford is also available for consultation
in the areas of program planning and professional contractual services.
Dr. Langford visited Nigeria at the request
of Hope for the Blind, a nationwide, privately supported organization
that is primarily concerned with Braille and recorded books. He
went to this Western Africa country to survey organizations and
agencies concerned with the health, welfare, education, and spiritual
needs of blind persons, as well as their rehabilitation and employment.
After his fact-finding tour, he was able to make recommendations
to improve services for Nigeria's visually impaired citizens.

We are happy to report that through cooperation
with public and private agencies and caring individuals, computers
for the blind have been sent to most U.S. states, Canada, Mexico,
Chile, Peru, Bhutan, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Zimbabwe.
