Videos for the Visually Impaired

Blind girl enjoying videotapeWe maintain a circulating library of over 200 Descriptive Video titles. These are popular movie titles that play in a VCR, with specially enhanced audio tracks. A voice-over provides information that helps the user follow the plot —describing objects, characters, events and actions not evident from the sounds and dialog on the original videotape.

The Video library service is available to visually impaired persons in the United States and Canada. Through our Video library, 150 visually impaired persons each year enjoy the same movies as sighted persons. This means 1700 movies a year are enjoyed by our patrons. See a list of available descriptive videos.

The process is simple. We mail videos to you one at a time. When you've finished viewing the Video, pop it in the provided return mailer envelope and send it back to us. We will immediately send another video of your choice.
